Santa Fun Run/ Walk

Santa Fun Run/ Walk

 Sunday November 28th

Visit the website for more info and to register: Variety Santa Fun Run

Why should we get involved?

“ Variety, the Children’s Charity is dedicated to enriching the lives of children in need throughout Australia. As a National, not–for–profit organisation Variety transforms and improves the lives of thousands of children in need every year. We are committed to improving young lives from birth, right up until the age of 18.We have transformed young lives in a Variety of different and important ways! Last year alone, Variety granted over $12 million in appeals! Whilst that is a hugely impressive number, the effect that sum of money has had on children’s lives is truly immeasurable.

Consider that many children do not enjoy the basic independence that most people take for granted; the freedom to walk, play and participate in everyday activities. With the funds raised from the Santa Fun Run,

Variety will be able to provide hundreds of children with the specialised mobility equipment they urgently need. Give children greater freedom this Christmas – it is a wonderful and priceless gift!
As well as helping individual children, Variety gives a great deal of support to Intensive Care Units and health services across the country. Variety provides support where there is no government funding, so the need is urgent and the benefits are broad.
Here are just some of the ways that our grants made a difference to children’s lives last year:
  • $5.1m was granted to purchase wheelchairs and mobility devices for individual disabled children across Australia.
  • 21 Liberty Swings were installed across Australia allowing disabled children to experience the sensation of being on a swing – a joy that we’re sure most people have taken for granted.
  • Over $1.6m used to purchase urgently needed medical equipment for Children’s Hospitals around Australia.
Variety hopes to reach even bigger milestones and help a greater number of children this Christmas and your support of the Santa Fun Run will help us achieve this.

Variety is proud to run on minimum administration costs, which means that every tax deductible dollar you raise goes directly to help the children. We are largely funded by the generosity of corporate and individual sponsors and of course by the big hearts of our wonderful volunteers.

With so much more to be done, Variety needs your support. Christmas is the perfect time to help kids in need, so register now!. All children should spend the festive season with a big smile on their faces – and your help could mean their smiles last far beyond Christmas time!

Every person that participates in the Variety Santa Fun Run can walk tall this Christmas knowing that they have helped to change young lives for the better.”

 See you there!

Visual Learning Aids for children

As you are probably aware, many of us learn at different rates and we use different types of media. Some of us learn best during a lecture - Auditory, some with notes - Visual, some people find it best to get in there and do the action - Kinesthetic. We all learn differently, this includes our children. As a child is developing they to are learning using all sorts of media.

Many children whether they have a learning difficulty, developmental delay or just transitioning towards being a toddler will benefit greatly from visual cues. Children who are yet to figure out that the word “bathroom” is a place where we go to wash our hands, may instead need to be shown a visual picture of the bathroom and a child washing their hands while you say, “Lets go to the bathroom and wash hands”. Together they can link the Visual cue with the Auditory words and the Kinesthetic action. Soon they will repond to the visual cue and or the Auditory request.

Below is a link to fantastic webpage, there are tonnes of pages of visual aids, including emotions, toilet training, routines and thats only from the Early Childhood package.

Go on and check it out, every thing is FREE to download and print out

    • Go back under shelter and watch what happens to your work as the rain hits the fabric/ paper
    • Once you have a wonderful pattern of raindrops bring under the cover to dry

    • How wonderful would it be to make your own cloting patches, bags, canvass’s! Your only limited by your imagination
    Cubbyhouses
    • Ok so it is pouring outside why not go on an adventure…..
    • Together create a cubbyhouse/ ship/ tent

    • This is a great space to read, draw or act out an adventure
    • Why not even have dinner in your creation!
Puddle jumping & discovering the garden
    • So it has been raining….. alot
    • The ground is all muddy and wet
    • Sounds like fun to me!
    • Grab some old, warm clothes and head outdoors
    • Look at the garden. Are there any changes since last time you looked?
    • Where are all the insects, birds, worms?
    • Does the garden smell different
    • Jump in some puddles - talk about volume
Changes in our weather are a constant, why not use this time to encourage and discover maths and science concepts together!

    New AQTF Standards - Vetab

    New AQTF Standards introduced

The new Australian Quality Training Framework (AQTF) Essential Conditions and Standards for Initial Registration and Continuing Registration of Training Organisations were approved by the Ministerial Council for Tertiary Education and Employment in late June for implementation from 1 July 2010.
The new standards will be presented to the Vocational Education and Accreditation Board (VETAB) at their meeting on 2 August for formal endorsement prior to their implementation in NSW. It is anticipated that audits conducted after 1 September 2010 will be against the new AQTF Standards.
The Conditions and Standards were revised to strengthen the AQTF and provide additional protection for all students undertaking vocational education and training in Australia.
    Key features:
    • Strengthened requirements in areas of financial viability, financial management, fee protection and governance conditions
    • Compliance with the Conditions of Registration will now be audited in the same way that compliance with the Standards is audited
    • An organisation must comply with the Essential Conditions and Standards for Continuing Registration at the date that it is approved for registration
    • Non-compliance with the new Essential Conditions and Standards may result in a range of sanctions being placed on the Registered Training Organisation (RTO), which may include additional conditions being placed on an RTO’s registration, an RTO being de-registered, or an application for registration being rejected.
Implementation of three elements of the new AQTF has been put on hold until 3 January 2011.  These are:
    • Student fees paid in advance (Condition 5)
    • the use of an AVETMIS compliant system (Condition 6)
    • the use of a Unique Student identifier (Condition 6)
RTOs need to be compliant with all other aspects of the new AQTF from the date it becomes effective.
You can download copies of the new AQTF Standards from the training.com.au website.

    National Quality Framework for Childcare

"Research shows that a child’s experience in their first five years sets the course for the rest of their life.

In recognition of this, the Australian Government, in partnership with all state and territory governments, is making important changes to early childhood education and care in Australia. This will ensure that Australian children get the best possible start.

The framework will be implemented progressively from 1 July 2010 with full implementation by January 2012.

The National Quality Framework will put in place a new National Quality Standard to ensure high quality and consistent early childhood education and care across Australia.

These changes will help providers to improve their services in the areas that impact on a child’s development and empower families to make informed choices about which service is best for their child.

Changes will be made in key areas

The National Quality Framework will set a new National Quality Standard for early childhood education and care providers in Australia.
The National Quality Standard will improve quality through:
    • improved staff to child ratios to ensure each child gets more individual care and attention
    • new staff qualification requirements to ensure staff have the skills to help children learn and develop
    • a new quality rating system to ensure Australian families have access to transparent information relating to the quality of early childhood education and care services
    • the establishment of a new National Body to ensure early childhood education and care is of a high quality.
The new National Quality Framework will cover long day care, family day care, outside school hours care and preschools." www.deewr.gov.au
